The City Of Redding and California Heritage YouthBuild Academy (CHYBA) have partnered to launch the Shasta County Workforce Recovery Training Program (WRTP), offering no-cost job training and support services to individuals in our community impacted by the 2018 disasters. Funded by the CDBG-DR Workforce Development Program, this initiative is designed to help you gain the skills and support needed to succeed in today’s job market.

No requirement to have been directly impacted by the 2018 disasters to apply! This opportunity is open to all Shasta County residents. See guidlines below

Construction

This hands-on course introduces students to the fundamentals of residential and commercial construction. Students learn safety, tool use, measurement, blueprint reading, framing, electrical, plumbing, and finishing skills through a blend of classroom instruction and real-world practice. The course emphasizes teamwork, employability, critical thinking, and craftsmanship, culminating in a capstone build project that integrates all learned skills.

Culinary

This CTE Culinary Arts course provides students with hands-on experience in professional cooking, baking, catering, meal planning, and food safety. Students train in a commercial-style kitchen and build practical workplace skills including teamwork, time management, and communication. Upon completion, students will earn multiple industry-recognized certificates demonstrating foundational culinary competency.

Fire Technology

The Fire Technology course introduces students to the foundational principles, core operations, and essential skills required for a career in fire protection and emergency medical services (EMS). Blending classroom instruction with hands-on practical training, the course covers fundamental topics including fire behavior, safety and tool operations, Incident Command System (ICS), and wildland/structural firefighting suppression tactics. Concurrently, students develop basic emergency medical responder skills, including patient assessment, CPR/AED prep/awareness, airway management, and trauma care. Emphasizing personal physical fitness, professional ethics, safety policies, and career readiness, this course prepares students for fire academies, and entry-level public safety pathways while offering opportunities for dual enrollment college credit.

Early Childhood Education

This introductory Early Childhood Education course provides students with a foundation in child development, developmentally appropriate practice, play-based learning, curriculum, positive guidance, family partnerships, diversity and inclusion, observation, assessment, and professional practice. Through hands-on experiences, field observations, simulations, projects, and reflection, students explore the role of the early childhood professional and begin developing their own professional philosophy and career pathway.
